Drum Birthing

Birthing your own shamanic drum is more than making a new instrument — it is a sacred, hands-on journey where you will craft a drum that is uniquely yours. Every drum has its own voice and vibration, and when you make it with your own hands and heart, it becomes a trusted ally for healing, ceremony, and connection with the unseen world.
We honour the spirit of the animal and the tree, offering gratitude and deep reverence for the elements that come together in the birth of your drum. As you cut the hide, lace the frame, and feel your drum come to life, you are also stepping into a deeper connection with your new friend.
Drum birthing is open to all – no experience is necessary – just a willingness to connect with your heart & spirit. By the end of the day, you’ll leave not only with a beautiful, handmade drum and beater, but also with a new friend, a tool for healing, and a connection that lasts a lifetime.
Workshops are held at Caer Corhrain on the Isle of Sheppey under the guidance of Lynn Gosney who has over 25 years of experience birthing drums.
My Teachers
I offer my deepest gratitude to my teacher, Lynn Gosney, for passing on to me the sacred art of drum birthing. With over 25 years of experience bringing drums into the world, Lynn holds this work close to her heart and shares it with grace, wisdom, and deep reverence.
From Lynn, I have learned that crafting a drum is far more than a creative act — it is a ceremony. Each drum is birthed with guidance from Spirit and with profound respect for the animal and tree beings who give of themselves to become these powerful medicine tools. She has taught me to listen deeply to the voice of each drum, to honour the lives that form them, and to walk this path with integrity, humility, and devotion.
Lynn herself was taught by her dear friend and teacher, James Patrick Pinson of Cedar Mountain Drums. From him came the understanding that every drum carries its own spirit and purpose — a teaching that cannot be found in books, but must be passed from heart to heart, through lived experience and sacred connection.
